KCNM has created a 30 hour Module on Food/Nutrition Security and Public Policy for Post-graduate Programmes in Public Policy, Nutritional Sciences, Social Work with the assistance of Dr Neetu Sharma, Fellow and Programme Head, Right to Food at NLSUI.
The module has been reviewed by experts - Dr R Sankar, who headed the GAIN India Country Office until very recently, and now heads The India Nutrition Initiative, (TINI), a Tata Trust Programme; Dr Brahmam, a distinguished scientist and researcher, retired recently from the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, and led the recent NNMB Technical Report 26, 2012 -" Diet and Nutritional Status of Rural Population, Prevalence of Hypertension & Diabetes among Adults and Infant & Young Child Feeding Practices." and Dr Inka Barnett, a nutritionist and epidemiologist is a Research Fellow at IDS Sussex, and knows India well. We are extremely happy that the the Azim Premji University, University of Vijayapur, and Mount Carmel College, Bangalore have decided to include the Module in the curriculum from the academic year 2017-18.
The Universities of Mysore, Bangalore, and School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore are in the process of getting necessary approvals for adopting the Module.
This is an excellent development.
Let us hope this is replicated in all Universities.
