A delegation consisting of David Nabarro, Special Representative of the U.N. Secretary-General for Food Security and Nutrition, and Florence Lasbannes, Leader of the Co-ordination Team for the U.N. System High Level Task Force on Food Security, met Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda here on Tuesday and discussed the activities of the Karnataka Nutrition Mission.
Karnataka Nutrition Mission activities, being implemented on a pilot basis, are aimed at providing food security and nutrition to children, pregnant and lactating women, and are the first of their kind in India.
To start with, the mission activities are being implemented in Gubbi taluk of Tumkur district, Shikaripur taluk of Shimoga district and Bellary Rural taluk with a financial outlay of Rs. 5 crore for each taluk.
The programmes are being taken up by the Department of Health and Family Welfare in collaboration with Agriculture, Education, Women and Children Welfare departments.
The mission aims at preventing malnutrition and enable steps to providing food security and proper nutrition.
Chief Secretary S.V. Ranganath and Advisor, Karnataka Nutrition Mission, Veena Sriram Rao were present at the meeting.
Later, the delegation held a detailed meeting with the senior officers of the departments involved in implementing the mission. |
